The Matenadaran

Well, yesterday it was a success! We launched the Digitized Medieval Manuscripts Maps one hour ahead of schedule (it leaked through Twitter... eheh...), but we like to believe it was a lucky event, since what followed on Twitter was a feast of re-tweets and new followers. In just 48 hours, the website was visited around 3'000 times. We would like to thank all of you who have shared, liked, re-tweeted, re-tumbled, +1ed, etc. It really helped a lot and it certainly got the message out there. This blog is going to be about digitized special collections only. The Sexy Codicology Blog, instead, covers all the aspects of medieval manuscripts. As of today, there are 246 libraries and institutions on the DMMmaps. Same are very famous; others are a bit less traveled by but are, nonetheless,  the keepers of fantastic treasures that are available online for everyone to be discovered.

The Book of Kells and its Madonna and Child

Inaugurating a new series of posts: The Social Media Codicologists. You might not know it, but out there, in the social media sphere, there are hundreds of people like Sexy Codicology that share fantastic images of medieval manuscripts, along with great and interesting information. We want to highlight some of the posts we come across on our Tumblr. The first post of this series is a miniature shared by buonfresco:

Madonna and Child from the Book of Kells, Folio 7v, Late 8th or early 9th century, Scotland

The European Library Widget

A Widget for Book Lovers

A few days ago, while looking at the newstream of the Sexy Codicology Facebook Page, we notice the European Library promoting their widget. We contacted them and asked if it was possible to install the widget also on our blog. This lead to an exchange of emails that helped us installing the widget. In 24 hours, after a bit of tweaking on our side, the plugin was installed and ready to be used. Today, we got promoted on their Facebook Page.
