Some time ago we published a blog post showing how broken links to digitized repositories on the DMMapp were a problem, causing them to become inaccessible to users. This was a major problem for us: Researchers count on the DMMapp to find and access digitized colletctions, and it is obviously a major blow to the project if they cannot achieve the one thing they came there to do. Also users that simply want to explore collections can easily get frustrated if they stumble upon broken links.

Expansion!

Hi everyone! Couple of news concerning both the blog and the DMMapp. Sexy Codicology Blog news Have you checked our "Medieval Scripts" section recently? No? Well, we are currently working on expanding our website and we are now writing texts concerning medieval writing styles. The idea here is to provide visitors with a good starting point for studying medieval scripts further. We will reference all the scholarly sources used while wring the text via footnotes, so that students and researchers can find the same reading material we used to carry out their own research, or simply order a nice book from their library and read further. There is a lot to write, so the project will take quite some time. Many scripts will start with a brief description only, but will be expanded over time. In the main "Medieval Scripts" page, you will also find links to other great websites that have interesting content concerning the writing styles. DMMapp updates The "Report Broken Link" feature we recently developed in our app is proving to be a success, and extremely useful to us! Before, we would have to run a manual check on all the systems and wait for the response of all the websites we had in the DMMapp, then interpret the results, then edit the JSON. No more! Now, whenever we get a notification of a broken link, we can quickly act and try to fix the issue. Also, there is now a DMMapp plugin! Yep, on Chrome, Opera, and Firefox, you can quickly find the same repositories we have added to the DMMapp, without going to the DMMapp first. Awesome!

The Parker Library & Parker on the Web 2.0

In December 2017  the Parker Library announced in a blog post that, soon, they would be launching their revamped website. Fast-forward to January 2018 and the Parker Library (Corpus Christi College) in Cambridge indeed launched their new website, Parker on the Web 2.0, made in cooperation with Stanford University Libraries. The improvements are many, but the biggest, and most exciting, is that now everyone can access their digitized manuscripts freely in high-resolution, without needing an institutional license. DMMapp update with a new, important, feature!

We have added a new button on the DMMapp - https://digitizedmedievalmanuscripts.org/app/ We are introducing the legendary "Report Broken Link" button. From now on you can inform us if there is a link in our app that does not lead to digitized medieval manuscripts! The link will automatically be added to the form, together with the name of the institution. We'll look at URL, start searching for a working alternative, and restore access to the books! If you do not see the button yet, refresh your browser's cache or wait a couple of days!

Important DMMapp update!

Dear all, We are about to update the DMMapp. Since we know that quite some users count on the DMMapp to help them in their courses and studies, we find it important to communicate some updates that we have lined up, and what disruptions can be expected. What is going to change?

DMMapp upgrade - status update

So, late on schedule we are upgrading the DMMapp; as we have been posting in the past weeks, we are off to a new server and to HTTPS. The process started a couple of hours ago this Tuesday morning and now we are waiting for the Internet to take notice of the changes. We are also signaling all the services that we would like the website always to load over HTTPS rather than the less secure HTTP. In the meanwhile, you will most possibly see a error page instead of the DMMapp. This is normal and expected. It will take from 24 to 48 hours until everything will be back to normal and the DMMapp will be usable again. This will vary per region. Some areas in the world will be able to access the DMMapp earlier than others; we have no power over this. As always, all the DMMapp data is always accessible via GitHub. If you are desperatly searching for a resource or some manuscripts from a specific library: check and search our code! We are sorry for the inconvenience, but it is something that is essential for this project! Thank you for your understanding, and see you on the HTTPS side!
